The influx of Filipino football players to Thailand continues as Dennis Villanueva opted to leave the United City Football Club for Thailand football club Nakhon Ratchasima FC.
In a Facebook post by Nakhon Ratchasima FC on Tuesday night, it confirmed the transfer of Philippine Azkals defender Villanueva.
The Rome-born Villanueva will be a timely boost for the Nakhon Ratchasima FC as they club is currently at 13th place among 15 teams heading into the final stretch of the 2020-2021 season of T1.
The 28-year-old Villanueva was previously part of the Lazio youth system and Italy fourth division side A.S. Ostia Mare Lido Calcio.
He then relocated to the country and joined the Philippine Azkals in the 2014 AFF Suzuki Cup. He played locally for defunct football teams Global and Davao Aguilas before joining Ceres/United City in 2019.
Villanueva is the third player from United City who transferred abroad, with OJ Porteria moving to Ratchaburi and Mike Ott agreeing to a deal in Malaysia, reportedly with Melaka United.
Aside from Villanueva, two more Filipino players in Jarvey Gayoso and Mar Diano of the Azkals Developmental Team have agreed to a contract with Thai-based Muangthong football club.
