Kaya FC beats Mendiola, remains unbeaten in Copa

DEFENDING cup champion Kaya FC-Iloilo remains unbeaten in the 2022 Copa Paulino Alcantara after a 1-0 win over Mendiola FC 1991 on April 11 at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

Mendiola FC made it a competitive match against one of the country’s best clubs, keeping it scoreless at halftime.

However, veteran striker Jhan Melliza ended the deadlock after scoring the match’s only goal in the 68th minute. Melliza struck inside the box coming off a shot that was deflected by Stallion goalkeeper Michael Asong.

On the other hand, Azkals Development Team (ADT) salvaged a 1-1 draw with Stallion Laguna FC following a late goal by midfielder Scott Woods.

Brazilian forward Leonardo Noguiera hit the early goal in just 19 minutes of action.

ADT had the perfect opportunity to score the equalizer after Dennia Chung was fouled by Griffin McDaniel just outside the box.

Woods took the free kick and hit the back of the net with an accurate left-footed strike in the 87th minute.

Kaya FC is still trailing United City FC (UCFC) by a point at seven points from two wins and a draw. With the loss, Mendiola FC dropped to sixth place with a point from a draw and three losses.
