Kaya FC is off to a good start in its title defense bid after edging Maharlika Manila FC in a one-goal game on the opening day of 2022 Copa Paulino Alcantara on Monday at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona, Cavite.
After a goalless first half from either team, the defending champions leaned on the lone goal from Japanese winger Daizo Horikoshi in the 46th minute surge ahead of Maharlika.
The win handed Kaya FC an early three points to lead the team standings.
Kaya will try to make it back-to-back wins when it faces powerhouse team United City FC on March 28.
