MANILA – Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo and United City Football Club settled for a 1-1 draw in the 2022 Copa Paulino Alcantara on Monday night at the PFF National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

Daizo Horikoshi scored a game-tying goal at the 56th minute as the Iloilo City-based football club salvaged a point to stay on top of the standings with four points, on one win and a draw.

Prior to that, United City FC notched the lead at the 35th minute mark with veteran Mike Ott hammering the ball past the defense of defending champions Kaya-Iloilo.

With the score tied at 1-1, there were plenty of opportunities for Kaya-Iloilo and United City FC to surge ahead but the tight defense from both sides maintained the stalemate.

Just like Kaya-Iloilo, United City FC also has the same standings of four points, on one draw and a victory, a 4-0 domination to Maharlika Manila FC last week.

In the first game, 2021 Copa runner ups Azkals Developmental Team had an impressive debut as it scored a 3-0 domination over Mendiola 1991 Football Club.

Scott Woods, Sky Guerrero and Lance Ocampo were the goal scorers for the national men’s developmental football squad as they took the full three points for second place.

With both teams misfiring on their early attempts, Azkals Developmental Team took a 1-0 upperhand just before the intermission with Woods sinking a penalty kick.

The lead was doubled at the 74th minute with Guerrero connecting on a left foot hit. Minutes later Ocampo joined the scoring fray as he kicked in from close range.

The defeat kept Mendiola 1991 at the cellar with no point after two matches. They debuted with a shutout loss to Maharlika Manila two weeks ago./PN
