United City FC (UCFC) is up for some tough competition in the upcoming AFC Champions League which will be held in April.
In the draw held on Monday, UCFC was pooled with Thailand's BG Pathum United FC, Australia's Melbourne City FC, and South Korea's Jeonnam Dragons to compose Group G.
BG Pathum is the 2020-21 Thai League 1 champions, while Melbourne City FC won the A-League Men tournament last year. The Jeonnam Dragons, meanwhile, were the 2021 Korean FA Cup titleholders.
The group stage of the East Division, where UCFC is included, will start on April 15.
Meanwhile, Kaya FC will need to win the preliminary and playoff stages against teams from Australia and China to be able to book a slot in Group H of the tournament.
UCFC booked a slot in the group stage as the 2020 champions of the Philippines Football League after the 2021 season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the AFC Cup draw held on the same day, Kaya FC was grouped with Bali United FC of Indonesia and Keda Darul Aman FC of Malaysia in Group G of the ASEAN Zone. They will be joined by the winner of the playoffs in the said zone to complete the pool.
The group stage of the AFC Cup ASEAN Zone is slated to start on June 24.
