United City FC (UCFC) put up an incredible run in the 2020 Philippines Football League.
UCFC, which paraded the core of the three-time PFL champion Ceres Negros FC, clinched the championship this shortened season held in the bubble at Philippine Football Federation (PFF) national training center.
Other than the coveted title, United City players also hauled all the individual awards Monday night in the awarding ceremonies.
Spanish striker Bienvenido Maranon seized the Golden Boot award for scoring the most goals this season — seven.
Maranon got six of his total goals by way of two hat-tricks — one against the Mendiola FC and one against the Maharlika Manila FC.
Azkals Development Team (ADT) member Anthony Pinthus, who was on loan to United City FC, bagged home the Golden Glove award for not conceding a goal to ADT, Maharlika Manila, and Mendiola.
Team captain Stephan Shrock then won the Golden Ball (MVP) award as he proved to be the maestro that kept United City humming well this season.
United City finished with a 4-1 win-loss card that went with 12 points and a goal difference of +22. For its PFL conquest, UCFC also earned a spot in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League group stages.
Meanwhile, Kaya Iloilo FC retained its runners-up finish after defeating UCFC Monday night, 2-1. Kaya became the lone team to not lose a match this season, tallying three wins and two draws for 11 points and a goal difference of +23.
For placing second, Kaya also got a spot in the AFC playoff (wildcard round).
The Azkals, meanwhile, snared the bronze medal with a 3-2 slate, which went with nine points and a goal difference of +7.
