United City FC (UCFC) is raring to parade a new set of recruits as the squad revs up for its maiden AFC Champions League campaign in June or July in Thailand.

“It was necessary to get good and experienced players into the squad given the number of players that have left us. But I’m confident that they will bring in a lot of fresh wind and quality,” said UCFC skipper Stephan Schrock yesterday.

Tipped to see intense action in the largest club competition in Asia, the Filipino side was selected in Group I of the tourney together with Japan Football League champion Kawasaki Frontale, Chinese Super League powerhouse Beijing Guoan, and the playoff winner between Daegu FC of Korea and Chiangrai United of Thailand.

However, following the departure of former mainstay OJ Porteria and Senegalese reinforcement Robert Lopez Mendy early this year, the club needed to quickly rebuild its roster.

The club, a four-time PFL titleholder, successfully beefed up its lineup as they acquired the services of former UCFC striker Mark Hartmann, as well as American defender Johnny Campbell and Korean booter Da-Hwon Jung as their foreign reinforcements this year.

Aside from them, UCFC also signed young talents bannered by former Ratchaburi FC defender and Azkals youngster Justin Baas, alongside former Mendiola FC goalkeeper Kenry Balobo and William Grierson.
