Cebu FC looks to close out the first round of the 2022 Philippines Football League (PFL) strong as it takes on Mendiola FC 1991 today at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) National Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.
Cebu FC is currently on top form after winning two of its last three matches. The Gentle Giants are coming off an impressive 5-1 beating of Maharlika Manila FC on Sept. 10.
Mendiola FC, in the meantime, is coming off its first win of the tournament, beating Maharlika FC, 1-0.
The last time Cebu FC and Mendiola FC locked horns was in this year’s Copa Paulino Alcantara. Cebu FC was down a goal but came from behind to beat Mendiola FC, 3-1.
Meanwhile, league leader Kaya FC-Iloilo takes on defending champion United City FC (UCFC) in a battle of unbeaten teams.
Kaya FC has been unstoppable in the league, winning all of its five matches thus far. Kaya FC is fresh from a 4-1 win over Maharlika FC. UCFC is also impressive in the league and is yet to be beaten. UCFC beat Stallion Laguna FC, 4-2, in its last match.
The last time Kaya FC and UCFC faced off was in the finals of the Copa Paulino Alcantara. UCFC outlasted Kaya FC, 3-2, to win the cup.
Kaya FC still holds the top spot with 15 points, a sizable margin from second place UCFC, which has 10 points.
Cebu FC is third with eight points, followed by Stallion FC with six points. Azkals Development Team is fifth with four points, Mendiola FC is sixth with three points and Maharlika FC is at the bottom with no points.
