CEBU FC lost again to Stallion FC in the battle-for-third match of the 2022 Copa Paulino Alcantara after a 2-1 defeat on May 22 at the Philippine Football Federation (PFF) Training Center in Carmona, Cavite.

Abou Sy scored the opening goal in the 17th minute after he broke away from Cebu FC’s defensive line. Turkish striker Arda Cinkir equalized for Cebu FC with a header coming from a cross pass by Japanese defender Okuda.

When it looked like the match was going into extra time, Stallion FC substitute Jo Warren Bedia scored the game winner from point blank range in the 88th minute.

This is back-to-back seasons Stallion FC beat Cebu FC in the battle-for-third match. In 2020, Stallion FC beat Cebu in a penalty shootout.

Cebu FC finished as the second seed but couldn’t maintain momentum and lost its last two matches.

Meanwhile, United City FC (UCFC) dethroned Kaya FC-Iloilo with a 3-2 win in the Copa finals.

UCFC striker Kenshiro Daniels scored the opening goal against his former team in the 11th minute. He flicked the ball past Kaya FC goalkeeper Zach Banzon for an impressive goal.

Kaya FC leveled the field after Senegalese forward Robert Lopez Mendy scored the quick equalizer in the 14th minute. Mendy got his own rebound and hit the back of the net from point blank range.

Kaya FC took a 2-1 lead in the 32nd minute with a beautiful strike past the outstretched arms of UCFC goalie Anthony Pinthus.

Speedy winger Hikaru Minegishi equalized in the 52nd minute with a goal from a scramble inside the box.

Skipper Mike Ott scored the winning goal in the 69th minute after he connected with a corner kick by Mark Hartmann.

Kaya FC’s Daizo Horikoshi won the Golden Boot award, Pinthus snagged the Golden Gloves award and Ott won the Golden Boot award.
