Kaya FC-Iloilo is raring to sustain its momentum after gaining the solo lead in the early stretch of the Philippines Football League.

Kaya skipper Jovin Bedic said their winning mentality boosted them to get off to a hot start and claim their third straight win following a 6-1 conquest of Mendiola FC over the weekend.

The dominant victory put the Iloilo-based squad at pole position with nine full points in the seven-team tourney.

United City FC, meanwhile, slid to seven points after a 1-1 draw with Cebu Dynamic Herb FC, while Stallion Laguna FC and Azkals Development Team had three and six points respectively.

“We really worked hard that week because we wanted to get more points. Since this is a league battle, the points system should be better for us,” Bedic said.

“We’re having a great season and the winning mentality is there. We’re just hoping that it will continue throughout this season.”

The win did not come easy as Mendiola scored an opening goal that stunned Kaya’s backline in the 21st minute.

But Bedic, who adjusted his game on the wing, converted a running header in the far post at 40th minute, before Eric Giganto cruised a close range shot against Henri Bandeken for a 2-1 halftime lead.

Kaya never looked back as Jarvey Gayoso, Bedic and Daizo Horikoshi opened the floodgates before Jhanjhan Meliza capped the scoring spree with a right-footed strike in the 92nd mark.

The Yu Hoshide-mentored squad seeks to get its fourth straight win against Maharlika FC on 28 August.

“They placed me in the wing, but of course you have to help the team. Whatever the coach wants us to do, we will follow it,” Bedic said.
