Defending champion Kaya-Iloilo drubbed the Azkals Development Team, 4-0, Wednesday, April 20 to take the solo lead in the Copa Paulino Alcantara at the PFF National Training Centre in Carmona, Cavite.

Senegalese striker Robert Lopez Mendy finally found the mark as he scored all of his two goals in the first half to lead Kaya’s resounding win against the team it defeated to win last year’s cup tournament.

Trinidadian defender Carlyle Mitchell added to the scoring tally for Kaya while Japanese winger Daizo Horikoshi produced his third goal of the competition during the second half.

Kaya moved ahead of the table with 10 points through four matches, two clear of idle United City FC which is currently in Thailand for the AFC Champions League.

ADT, which opted to field mostly players who will see action for the national U-23 squad in the Vietnam Southeast Asian Games, stayed in third place with four points in four games.

Earlier, Mendiola FC 1991 and Stallion-Laguna battled to a scoreless draw as the two sides couldn’t find the back of the net after 90 minutes.

Mendiola had its chances in the first half, with Ghanaian striker Stephen Appiah missing two attempts during a counterattack.

Stallion’s best opportunity came late in the match when substitute Marvin Angeles fired a shot that hit the far post.

Both clubs stayed level with two points each, with Stallion producing two draws in as many matches and Mendiola missing a chance to gain an inside track at a semifinal spot after five games.
